Becoming a Kingdom Millionaire
Becoming a Kingdom Millionaire is one of my quiet dreams. About 3 years ago after talking with a very wealthy friend, I was overwhelmed with the fact that from a social perspective, movements take not only people but money.
Think of the hippie movement (someone paid for all those free drugs). Think of the gay movement (parades aren’t cheap). While we have something much bigger working with us (the Lord of the Universe…holla!), I think from a human perspective it wouldn’t hurt if we helped out as much as we can.
And so, I decided that I wanted to partner with God and give $1 million to advance the Kingdom of God and help fulfill the Great Commission in my lifetime. For those who aren’t familiar…
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.”
I wouldn’t say it’s my front-running goal, but the desire to become a Kingdom Millionaire has been with me for all this time.
SOOoo, you’re probably wondering…how in the world will I ever get there?!
I think the answer is pretty simple…
Make More. I’m always looking for ways to increase my income and/or decrease my tax exposure. Keep your eyes open.
Spend Wiser. Keeping to a budget is a VERY good idea and has helped alot in our marriage lately. We’re paying down debt and giving more than ever before. Be smart with God’s cash.
Invest Well. I’m gonna be honest- government-run investments and paying into a pension fund that won’t exist when I’m 60…that doesn’t really appeal to me. In fact, I think it’s down-right dangerous. My advice to you (and almost every young person) would be…invest in yourself. Start a small business. Work hard and grow it huge. Make Jesus the CEO.
Give Lots. Give Often. Giving in one of the greatest joys I know. I have an envelope marked ‘Giving’ and it’s full of cash. As needs and calls and taps on the shoulders occur, we ‘withdraw’ and invest in the Kingdom. Seriously- follow your money. Don’t just throw it brainlessly in the plate at church and walk away. Pray for that ministry. Serve in it. Work in it. Make it flourish. Don’t waste God’s money.
Keep Track. I have a book called a Giving Log. Some people think that’s arrogant/works-based/not godly. I don’t these people actually think. If you’re not measuring your giving, you can’t track it. In the Old Testament, they kept track of every EARRING that was given to build the temple. In the New Testament, Jesus himself keeps track- of a poor woman who gives 2 pennies. God is keeping track. You might as well do it to- that way you know where you’re at.
It’s been an awesome journey so far!
We’ve been able to support a HUGE variety of needs and ministries….building water wells, micro-financing a beef business in Ghana and a retail store in Guatemala, blessing people with books, launching a ministry, help send a friend to Africa, pay some church bills, help newly married couples, and so much more.
I’ve found a way to turn $1/day into $20,000 for kingdom building over the next 10 years.
I’m developing a totally new way for church leaders to unlock their congregation’s current income for kingdom purposes.
I’m excited to see God move as my income increases, expenses decrease, and investments pay off. But I won’t wait to give!
Everything for the Lion and His Lands,
Jay
Disclaimers:
1. Just for the record, there is a TON of stuff on the web about people claiming they can teach you how to get rich through Jesus. As far as I’m concerned, we’re already made it- so now it’s time to be good stewards and actually give it away.
2. I’m not your financial planner. Go find a godly, rich, kingdom-minded wealth manager before making investment decisions. DO NOT go see your banker.
3. I won’t stop once I reach $1 million. That would be sinful and stupid.
4. Ron Blue once said “do your giving while your living so you’re knowing where it’s going.” Don’t wait until you’re old and rich to give. Give in faith, every step of the way. Faithful with the nickels, faithful with the dimes.
Things I’m currently trying to figure out:
-how to automate my income so I can spend time actually doing ministry/kingdom building
-how to give pre-tax rather than after-tax income
Would you like to become a kingdom millionaire? You can start today. Follow these five steps and let me know how it goes!

Brilliant! The church is in desperate need of people giving because God has so much planned and has placed us as stewards of His money to use it wisely.
Question: I often hear people say “We volunteer to the church, thus we don’t need to give money to it” Thoughts?

I think the Kingdom is really just people acting together to display the love of Jesus to the world. Anything you do could potentially progress the Kingdom. Maybe everything we do affects the Kingdom in some way.

LOL…God gave us both the gift of time AND money. The average North America is richer than King Louis was, and certainly more than the average New Testament Christian! Problem with our society is that it’s assumed that we’ll take on a $400 car payment, a $1000 mortgage, a HUGE tax bill, and go shopping as much as possible. I say we cut the crap and change the world.
