Viva la People!

chrismartin

So I went to see Coldplay with my wife last night. (that link is for a free live album by the way). A few thoughts:

  • Chris Martin is very man pretty.
  • I’m wondering what there biggest song is- Yellow? Talk? Fix You? Viva la Vida? Lemme know.
  • They sound just as good live as on record.
  • Apparently there were 43,000 people there.  Tickets ranged from $40 to hundreds. Do the math. Dang.

But let me say something on the record: I very much dislike Toronto.

I hate Toronto. Took me two hours to get downtown. Parking was $10. Food was overpriced. Server lady was meaner than Hitler. Some drunk guy was smoking in front of us. Took us 2 hours to get home.

BUTTTTT…

As Michelle and I walked down the ramp with 42,998 other people, we both noticed something SO beautiful:
Everyone looked different!
  • No two were the same.
  • Everyone is so special, so unique.
  • Each has a story.
  • God has a plan for each of them. (THAT’S what He’d been doing for all those years- planning!)
  • Each of them is wired differently.
  • Each of them has a dream.
I was overwhelmed by how much God loves people.  Rich, poor, happy, angry, dads with their daughters, drunk smokers, businessman, skanky girls, music lovers, artists…every single person in the building is RADICALLY loved by God.
And so, I want to meet everyone! If God loves them that much, they must be pretty special right?! I want to help as many people possible, in whatever ways I can, to achieve their God-given dreams.

That pumps me up!
What’s your dream?
Do you know that you are LOVED and that you are SO special?

P.S…holiday weekend here in Canada starting tomorrow! Gonna go see Food Inc. tonight in Guelph with some friends. Gonna try to hit St. Jacobs Farmer’s Market Saturday. Check out a church service on Sunday, watch the 5th (and maybe 6th) Harry Potter, and do about 12 hours of writing and 1,000,000 hours of sleeping.  God willing!  Also, gonna take Monday off from blogging.
What are you up to this long weekend?!

Gotta go with “Lost!” as one of my favs from Coldplay. That song gets me pumped up when I crank it in the car on a beautiful summers day!
Thnxs for the free live cd link. Still haven’t heard them live, but would love to one day.

Whats my dream? My dream is be a part of 43,000 people throwing their hands in the air and shouting at the top of their lungs Glory to God! How amazing would that be! Too often I leave major concerts disappointed because I always wish it were Jesus everyone worshiped, not a guy or gal on stage. What fulfilled can that truly give us? Its Jesus we should praise, not because the bible says so but because he’s the one that brings true real fulfilled joy. Joy that lasts forever.

Thats my dream. Who will dream that dream with me?

It’s Hard to See Out of Your Ears.

I read a serious ‘holla back’ verse today that really stuck out because of the translation I was reading.

Romans 12:4
Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.

The rest of the section goes on to talk about how we’re each part of the body of Christ and how each of us has a very vital role to play.

But we’re not the whole body.

I’m having a great conversation on Facebook right now with a cool dude named Preston…we’re both realizing that our generation is FULL of serious great ideas.

But not much is actually getting done.

Because everyone wants to do everything.

We, as a generation, need to take an honest look at ourselves-

  • we’re not heroes
  • we’re not the only one God is using
  • we’re not the Saviour

Stop being a Christian Walmart and start being a killer local specialty shop.

Sure, you could attempt to create every idea you ever have, but why?  Why not do a few things that you are super passionate about, and let someone else do the rest?  Heck, why not even help them?  Wouldn’t the body of Christ be stronger if each part was doing
what it was supposed to do?

If you’re trying to figure out your thing and want to talk, holla back!

  1. John Mac Says:

I’m not at all surprised that Jon Stewart is the most trusted newscaster. Because his business is making jokes about the news (or finding its inherent absurdity) he needs to educate his audience pretty well. And he needs to educate them without spin, or with as little as possible, by being a reasonable, “honest broker”. Examples of this are when he took on Jim Cramer in the wake of the economic collapse, and his recent attacks on Lou Dobbs for the “birther” nonsense.

I definitely trust Stewart more than other news sources. The fact that his show is full of sarcasm and that he isn’t afraid to grill people on the spot is refreshing.

Why 7-Year-Olds are Better Than Grandmas

Hey Everyone,

So we’re working on the site’s design updates (ie, prettier and faster!) and transferring to a completely new host (ie reliable).  Hopefully that should clear up our online acne.

Okay, this post could be entitled “The Original Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?”

grouchy-grandma

Here’s a good story to tell your friends:

So there’s this CRAZY old lady (a queen mother actually) named Athaliah.  Her son, King Ahaziah, got killed at the ripe old age of 23.  But don’t worry- he had it coming.  In his one single year as king, he was a complete tool and killed alot of people.  You can see why people were out to get him.

So rather than have the throne pass on to someone else, Queen Mother Athaliah decides to become Dominator of the Whole Kingdom. (word of caution: don’t let grandmas run countries!)  So sweet old granny decides to purge her own family. The Bible says “she set out to destroy the rest of Judah’s royal family.”  (Menopause?)

Thankfully, the dead king’s sister decides to keep the dead king’s son… alive. She hides him from her very own momma, who then goes on to kill all the other little boys and girls.  The little rescued boy, Joash- we’ll call him Joe, ends up living in a church for 6 years.

Here’s where we’re camping: 2 Chronicles 23:1

“In the seventh year of (crazy granny’s) reign, Jehoida the (pastor of the church hiding Joe) decided to act. He got up his courage and made a pact with five army commanders.”

He then goes on to overturn the kingdom, and puts 7-year-old Joe on the throne the king.  Apparently he had more sense than granny.  He reigned 40 years.

Let’s talk about Jehoida the pastor.  It took the dude SEVEN YEARS to build up the courage to do what God was calling him to do.

See where I’m going here?

I was so overtaken by the fact that this godly, mature, called-by-God leader of the faith took seven long years to step out in faith. (not that I would have taken a day less!)

The question I’m asking myself right now:

What is God calling me to do that I’ve been putting off because of fear?  What is it that I am afraid of?

Answer that, and you’ll well on your way to doing what God created you to do.

Any thoughts on this?  Feel free to comment or message me.

Mondays Mumblings

Hey Friends!

Michelle and I watched the first two Harry Potter films over the weekend.  Much better than the first time I watched them… back in high school, Rich and Kevin convinced me to “watch three of em”, starting at 2AM.  I was delirious by dawn.  My favourite quote so far:

“It does not do to dwell on dreams, Harry…and forget to live.”

Things are seriously heating up with Hope For the Sold. We’ve got a crazy September goings-on, and after that we’ll be looking for monthly supporters, a huge team of intercessors, and a bunch of volunteers to truly kill this thing.  Getting pumped!

Just finished one full week without Facebook. Man, I am SERIOUSLY addicted.  Every day was like withdrawal, it was BAD.  Gonna seriously limit my intake from now on.  Twas nice to come back to 23 messages and 37 notifications though!

We’ve just added TWO new guest bloggers to The Sex Rev, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Cat Greene (formerly Cat Cranna until she married the uber-stud Cody) will be writing monthly or so for No Boys Allowed.

James Kellywill be hopping on No Boys Allowed for some passionate ranting on a monthly or more basis.

Right now I’m working on three major projects that I need you to pray about for me:

  1. A Manifesto… I’m currently writing a short, funky, free ebook that kinda encapsulates everything I’m trying to say with the Sex Rev.  It’s about 75% done the actual written content, then it’s off to the graphic designers.
  2. Hope For the Sold stuff … trying to get your charitable status as an amateur like myself is absolute insane.  I don’t even want it, but people who don’t understand incorporation law or give for the wrong reasons seems to like it. Sigh.
  3. A book… I’d say I’m 60% done writing the content part.  I truly feel God is providing the direction- I feel SO much peace with where it’s going.  You’ve probably never heard some of the stuff that’s coming out in it.  E.x.c.i.t.e.d!

Apologies that this site is crashing more than a (fill in your random group of bad drivers here).  Still working on it.

Feel free to Facebook message/Tweet/email me if you’d like to chat.

At 3:30 today I’ll be posting, on Twitter and Facebook, a short 15 minute talk by a very passionate dude…perfect for all you entrepreneur/dreamer/leader types!

Do one thing today that brings you closer to your God-given dreams.

Love,

Jay
