Moments That Mark Us For Eternity

Today I celebrate my second year of marriage to by best friend, Michelle.

It’s sort of like a “second New Year.”

We take the time to write each other a letter, reviewing the previous year, and dreaming about the year to come.  As many of you readers know, Michelle and I do not taking living lightly!  As Thoreau said, we intend to “suck the marrow out of life.”  As Scripture says, “to live life to the full.” wedding-day3

Today I want to share with you the highlights of this past year of marriage.  For all you singles who think marriage is for old losers- I hope you’ll come to realize that some of us still know how to party ;)  We’ve been blessed to live an INSPIRED year.

There are moments in life that MARK us for eternity.  They change the course of our lives, and more often than not, we don’t even seen them coming.  A total of ZERO milestone events that occurred this year were planned by either of us.  I hope this will inspire you to chase the goose.

Love you bro. Thanks for sharing all this. I thank God for giving you both an adventurous heart and look forward to how he will continue to impact others through you.

Remember: "do adventures not for adventures sake but for Jesus' sake for he defined adventurous in all that He did for you and for us"

    For Jesus' fame,
    JK

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!! Our 'in person' encounters are so few and far between - I so treasure the privilege of getting to read a little about what is going on in your life. What an amazing year it has been! I'm jealous! But a good jealous (if there is one) - reading this just makes me want MORE of GOD in my life!! Happy Happy Anniversary to you two beautiful people!! I want and need to hear the shark story ;0) Love you both so much and miss you like crazy! Can't wait to see you again.

    Love,
    AUNTIE Nyree

  4. sexrevcomments Says:

Thanks James! We're trying to do both! As Rob Bell says, "our duty is to be as HUMAN as possible!"

  5. sexrevcomments Says:

Auntie Nyree you're making me feel like a lousy "nephew"!!! Love ya.

  6. sexrevcomments Says:

I should also mentioned that while in the jungle, I got pneumonia and Michelle got bronchitis and we both got shots in the butt!

Good Girls Gone… BORING.

***Author’s Note:  I wrote this rant two weeks ago and only now do I have the courage to post it.  Comments appreciated.  My wife and I have been talking late into the night about something lately.  It’s a matter that concerns us deeply…

Little girls with big dreams.

Now they’re big girls with no dreams.

Now they just want to “get married and have a family.”girl-with-a-dream

Dreams? Gone.

Vision? Blurred.

Calling? Shelved.

I call it “The Baby-Shaken Syndrome.”

For the record, there’s nothing wrong with having babies. I want eight.  And two three(!) of my best friends are pregnant right now, and I’m overjoyed for all of them.  Kids are a gift from God, and are totally worthy of being treasured.

But there’s something that distracted young married future-mamas seem to forget:

God gave women the parts to make babies. But God also gave women the hearts to change the world.

Dunno if you’ve noticed or not, but approximately half the population can give birth.

Was I tracking with you as I read this!…Thanks for having the courage to post it.
God's order of priorities for married women is as follows:
    Jesus FIRST
    Husband Second
    Children LAST!!!
It is so difficult to see young dad's being placed on the 'back burner' once the kids come along but even
more so watching young Mom's taking no time to be with God or living out their passions for Him.

  2. Ashley Ross Says:

Bold statement Jay, glad you're opening it up for all my sisters. It's nice to know that we're not just "mama", lol! Nice timing, this is certainly something I'm praying through right now….other then mom,….who am I and what am I here for? Very encouraging! :)

  3. sexrevcomments Says:

Hey Ashley, I'm glad it came as good timing… coincidence?!

  4. sexrevcomments Says:

    I always have felt last… ;)

  5. Rachel Says:

Thanks for posting this Jay! I couldn't agree with you more.

What saddens me the most are the attitudes and views of many Christians (men and women) that a wife and or mother who continues to pursue callings that God has placed on her heart outside the home couldn't possibly be living a life of 'biblical women'. This lie has and is being used to cripple the body of Christ.

Frankly the whole bible applies to women (not just the few passages that say 'women, wives or mothers' in them. I am saddened that so many groups of Christians have bought into the lie that women should only center their lives on 'wife and mother verses' and those who also focus on other things in addition to those few verses are sinning.

I serve Jesus first and serving my husband is ONE of the ways that I do this… NOT the only way. Satan has used this lie in an attempt to half the 'workforce of Jesus' and sadly he is succeeding.

We’re Leaving on a Jet Plane

Actually, we’re leaving on an Airbus, which is way more awesome than a jet plane.  With the amazing help of Lea, Jess, Shelley, and Cody, we managed to do the entire move in 10 hours.

We have way too much stuff….  Read the rest of this entry »

Book Review: Put Your Dream to the Test

put-your-dream-to-the-test1

Dear Reader,

If you are familiar with John Maxwell, you’ll know that his newest book. ‘Put Your Dream to the Test’ has been about 20 years in the making. He knew he couldn’t publish it until he had the integrity and foundation to do so. He hit the bullseye on this one.

A word of warning- this book is full of:
-concepts that will distract you from your work
-questions that won’t let you sleep at night
-quotes so inspiring that you’ll commit them to memory

Using a wide range of stories, both personal and historical, John challenges his readers to filter their dreams through a series of 10 questions. Put Your Dreams to the Test isn’t a playbook or a successful formula; it’s part workbook and part motivational manual, the best way I can describe this book is as a “motives purifier.”

While many people take a ‘get rich quick’ approach to achieving their goals, John offers no easy answers here. He extends advice like “pay the price early in your life” and (quoting Margaret Thatcher) “you may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.” Nothing quick and easy about it, and John even explains why- because only a bar set high is one worth stretching for.

John’s promise proves true: if you are willing to put your dream to the test, you WILL see it and seize it.

The Open Hand God Plan

GOD-WILLING!

Michelle and I are moving to Central America on Monday.

Then to British Columbia in September.

Then to Europe the following September.

We’re calling it our “Open Hand God Plan.”

For reals dawg.

DO NOT WORRY, The Sex Rev ain’t goin’ nowhere! I’m actively recruiting a few dozen new (and far more interesting) writers to take this thing to the next level. Michelle and I will still be posting as often as we find an internet connection, but we didn’t want to leave ya’ll hangin’ (like we have for the past few weeks, I apologize, it’s been NUTS around here!)

But right now you probably want to know the back story…

In November, Michelle and I heard God saying that “everything is about to change.” We did a 40 day fast, and at the end we felt God telling us that we were heading into a “season of learning.” That’s all we knew.

But then strange things started to happen:

Remember the story of the Hadal Snailfish?
We were feeling the pressure to conform to the pattern of this world?

Remember the post on The Worship Song That Doesn’t Exist?
We want our life to speak louder than words. We’re afraid that the world will see Jesus as a TALKING HEAD and not a MOVING BODY!

Remember The Chocolate Cake Myth and The White Picket Fence Dream?
We don’t want to live like that.

Shane Claiborne wrote something amazing in The Irresistible Revolution about the word “vocation.” It comes from the root word ‘vocas’ meaning “voice.” Your work should speak of who you are. Your job should reflect your voice. What you do should represent what you believe.

And we KNEW it was time for some major changes.

We gave notice to our landlord without even having a place lined up. We just knew we had to go.  My job ended before we had anything lined up.  We started giving away our stuff without fear of replacement.

There’s way more to our story and an even bigger reason why we’re moving, but you’re gonna have to read about that elsewhere…

It’s our newest project: DreamerOfYourDreams.com

We hope that you’ll follow our travels and the adventure towards our dreams… and hopefully you’ll be inspired to go after some of your own as well.

With all our love always,

Jay and Michelle Brock
