Hardcore Church

The Story Conference was amazing. Truly an incredible time. I got to meet so many great people. I’ll share all those stories on Monday.

Last week, my wife and I, along with Rich and Shelley, attended a justice conference in Toronto. In an all-Asian church. Quite the experience.  We heard about adopting, fostering, and sex trafficking. They had a time of worship, and they gave everyone a response card to fill out at the end of the night.

Now normally in church, the response card has the following options:

  • -Prayer Requests
  • -More information
  • -Join a small group
  • -Find a program for my kids
  • -Become a member

If a church is feeling particularly gutsy, they might even add “I want to accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.”

I guess they do things different in Asian churches.  Methinks Easterners care a bit more about what God is calling us to do. Because here were your options on the response card…

  • -Attend Bible College/seminary in preparation for future ministry
  • -Serve God in church planting ministry.
  • -Serve God full-time in church or Christian organization
  • -Participate in local missions
  • -Participate in overseas short-term missions trip.
  • -Serve God as a full time missionary/tentmaker.

Dang. We gotsta step it up yo!

Oh… and let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. -Hebrews 10:24-

When Michelle and I were in Vancouver a few weeks ago, with met a very cool dude named Brian. Brian runs a foundation whose dream is to ‘bring life to the killing fields of Cambodia.’

He’s got about 80 on his staff. They’ve rescued tons of girls from the sex trade.  He told us one story that absolutely floored me.

They’ve been working with the (absolutely pathetic) Cambodian government to get permission to rescue 10 boys who have been prostituted. They know where these boys are, and the abuse, rape, and torture that they endure every single night.  But Brian isn’t allowed to rescue them until he has somewhere to put them.

I asked Brian, “okay, how much would it cost to make that happen?”

His reply: “We’ve already drawn up the designs and picked out the piece of land. To buy the land, build the safehouse and compound, plus fully staff it for a year…$10,000 Canadian.”

$10,000. To rescue 10 boys and change their lives FOREVER.

I told this story at the men’s retreat that I spoke at this weekend.  I had one really cool dude come up to me afterwards and say, “Jay, I’m not really happy with you right now! I drove up here on my motorcycle. I’ve put $10,000 into it in the last 12 months. I’ve gotta do something about this, for these boys.”

God, I pray that today each of would give up something so that others can live. Would be imitate your Son Jesus in laying down our very lives so that you can use us to continue your redemption work.

If you want to talk about what you can give up/lay down for these boys, please contact me through Facebook/Emai/Twitter/SexRev. I’d love to chat and help you help them.

Pray for Us!

Sorry for the lack of updates… zero internet= zero posts!

So we’re having a bit of a technology problem…

  • Our GPS is intermittent at best.
  • Our main filming light completely died.
  • Jay’s digital camera car conked.
  • Internet down at every single Starbucks we tried to visit.

Accordingly, some tech prayer would be great!

Spent a great day on Parliament Hill…learned some interesting facts about the past leaders.

About to head into our first interview in Montreal.

Talk to you soon,

Jay

Ps…Michelle first video post is up at hopeforthesold.com.
